The $2 Club at Soulmate Brewing
Bars around the world have long had a quirky tradition: money
on the ceilings, left by travelers and guests, many with notes or messages
to commemorate their visit. At Soulmate Brewing, we put a romantic twist on
that tradition with our $2 Club.
The Story Behind the $2 Club
Co-founder Jonathan Mogor came up with the idea of using $2 bills instead of regular dollar bills. Why $2?
- Two soulmates finding each other—just like the pairs who inspire our brewery.
- A nod to love and connection, symbolized in currency.
The $2 Club officially opened the day Soulmate Brewing opened its doors. The very first two $2 bills were placed on the ceiling by:
- Jonathan & Carol Mogor (Soulmate Brewing founders)
- Hideki & Harumi Arao (founding members, brewer & cook at Soulmate Brewing)
The inspiration came from Jonathan’s travels, where he placed dollar bills on ceilings and walls of bars around the world. At Soulmate Brewing, he wanted to tie the tradition to the theme of soulmates, so he went to a local bank to see if $2 bills were available.
Fun fact: most banks don’t carry $2 bills! Jonathan discovered that tellers often only have them from random deposits and ordering them requires a little extra effort. But love—and creativity—finds a way. No need to go on a scavenger hunt to find them, we have them at the brewery ready for your story.
Stories Shared Across Generations
The $2 Club has become more than just a ceiling of bills. Visitors share stories:
- Tales of grandparents or parents who gifted $2 bills for birthdays or holidays
- Multi-generational family memories, now immortalized on the ceiling
